The pedestal where the three masks rest at the start of the maze

Global Game Jam 2026  /  Theme: Masks

UNMASKED Discharged

"Is this the right moment to wear this mask?"

You awaken on the floor of an impossibly vast maze of repeating corridors. Two ancient masks rest before you. Each one grants a single use power, and each use consumes a piece of your identity forever. Escape is possible, yet every choice you make is permanent.

This is not a hospital.
It is a containment.

The corridors repeat because the mind is caught in a loop. The maze exists to hold those who refused to let go. Those who refused treatment, refused to forget, and refused to accept their loss.

The architecture ignores logic. Halls extend into darkness, doors open onto rooms already visited, and walls move the moment they are left unobserved. This place was not built by human hands.

The system did not heal you. It contained you.

Entity / Containment Status: Unstable The containment entity within the maze

The Two Masks

Coping mechanisms. Single use. Irreversible cost.

Act 1 / Object Reveal The Hollow Mask revealing a hidden objective through True Sight

The Hollow Mask

F

"Show me what matters."

Highlights the two objects that matter, the Key and the Exit gate. Nothing else is marked, so you can see where to head without the game spelling out the route.

  • Marks only the Key and the Exit gate
  • No paths or corridors are revealed, just the targets
  • Shows you where to go, not how to get there
SINGLE USE / IRREVERSIBLE
Act 1 / Path Reveal The Guidance Mask view, the maze rendered in high contrast

The Guidance Mask

R

"If I just knew the way out."

Highlights the one correct route to the exit gate. The path that leads out glows green, and every other corridor stays dark, so you always know which way is forward.

  • Only the correct path to the exit is highlighted
  • The route glows green while all wrong turns stay unlit
  • Guides direction without walking the maze for you
SINGLE USE / IRREVERSIBLE

Warning: a mask worn at the wrong moment can trap you for good. The maze remembers.

The Sealed Wing [E] Examine A lone photograph hanging in the maze, the key to the final gate

Approach the frame to interact

The Game Loop

The Way Out
hangs on the wall.

The final gate is sealed from the moment you wake, and nothing in the corridors opens it by force. A single photograph hangs deeper in the maze. It is the true way through, yet it stays silent until you have found the locked gate with your own two eyes. Discovery has to come first. That order is the whole puzzle.

01

Discover the exit

The gate is locked. Find it before anything else will respond to you.

02

Return to the photograph

Stand before the frame on the wall and press E to examine it.

03

The frame tilts

It turns on the wall the way a portrait shifts in a haunted house, and the sealed gate releases its lock.

The photograph stays inert until the exit has been discovered. Approach it too early and the wall gives you nothing.

Ambient Telemetry

Irreversible Choice

Every mask you wear is lost for good. The experience moves through three acts, and the psychological pressure rises with each one.

01

The Threshold

Clean corridors that slowly degrade, and the temptation to spend a mask too early.

02

The Deep Maze

Pressure peaks here. Spend a mask at the wrong moment and the route can close for good.

03

The Escape

The final gauntlet. The maze fights back, and the way out waits behind the photograph.
